Stars In Their Eyes host Matthew Kelly has been nominated for best actor at the prestigious Laurence Olivier Awards.
The presenter is shortlisted for his stage role in Of Mice And Men and is up against the likes of Kenneth Branagh.
Critics raved about his performance as Lenny, the gentle giant in John Steinbeck’s Depression-era classic.
Kelly appeared in the production, which toured the UK before playing at London’s Savoy Theatre, shortly after being cleared over a child abuse allegation.
In January last year he was arrested following claims he had sexually abused a young boy in the 1970s.
He emphatically denied the allegations throughout the police inquiry and was cleared the following month.
Kelly is now back on screen hosting a new series of Stars In Their Eyes.
Branagh is nominated for Edmond at the National’s Olivier Theatre, and Michael Sheen – Kate Beckinsale’s ex – for Caligula at the Donmar Warehouse.
In the best actress category, Helen Mirren is nominated for Mourning Becomes Electra at the Lyttelton Theatre, and Kristin Scott Thomas for her role in Three Sisters at the Playhouse Theatre.
Amanda Holden is up against Thoroughly Modern Millie co-star Maureen Lipman for the best actress in a musical award.
And Michael Brandon is nominated for the best actor in a musical award for his starring role in Jerry Springer – The Opera, as is co-star David Bedella.
Best new musical will go to the outrageous Jerry Springer musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie or Terrence McNally’s Ragtime.
Elmina’s Kitchen, written by Casualty and Celebrity Fame Academy star Kwame Kwei-Armah, is in the running for best new play.
The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on February 22, hosted by Clive Anderson.
