Coronation Street killer Richard Hillman helped the soap to become the biggest rated show of last year.

The episode in which he drove the family car, with his wife and children inside, into a Manchester canal, was the most popular show of 2003, attracting 19.4 million viewers.

EastEnders snatched the No 2 spot with 16.7 million viewers for the September episode in which Dirty Den made his much-hyped return.
