Posh misses out on UK No.1 again
Victoria Beckham looks likely to be denied a number one record in the UK this weekend by Gary Jules.
The former Spice Girl is on a publicity blitz in a bid to shift copies of her double A-side single, This Groove/Let Your Head Go.
But midweek sales figures show that she is currently at number three. Gary Jules is outselling her by two-to-one and looks set to have a third week at the top with Mad World.
Ozzy Osbourne and daughter Kelly are currently in second place with their duet Changes.
But there is some good news for Beckham â she is trouncing long-time rival Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who beat her to the number one spot the last time they went head-to-head.
This time around, Ellis-Bextorâs single I Wonât Change You looks unlikely even to make the top 10.
Although the number one seems beyond her grasp, music experts said Beckham was still doing well by her standards.
The single will be her highest ever solo chart entry â previous releases Not Such An Innocent Girl (2001) and Mind Of Its Own (2002) both reached number six.
Out Of Your Mind, which reached number two in 2000, was a collaboration with Truesteppers and Dane Bowers.
âEarly sales indications for this week suggest Victoria is likely to miss out yet again on that elusive number one single,â said chart expert Gennaro Castaldo, of music retailer HMV.
âHer single has a strong chance of entering this weekâs chart as the highest new entry with a top three position.
âIt is not doing too badly at all and she should be quite happy with that. It will give her a great platform to relaunch her career.
âItâs also worth noting that Gary Jules and Ozzy Osbourne can count Sundayâs sales so they have a head start on Victoria, who only released her single yesterday.â
Fame Academy runner-up Alistair Griffin looks set for a top five record with his debut release, Bring It On/A Loverâs Prayer.
