Mad World holds on to UK's top spot

Michael Andrews and Gary Jules, who became the surprise Christmas No 1 with their sparse cover of the Tears For Fears song Mad World, held on to the top spot today in the last chart of 2003.

The pair – formerly little known even in their native United States – held off former No 1 Changes by Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne, which rose from No 3 to No 2, while last week’s No 2, The Darkness’s Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End), slipped to No 3.

There was little movement elsewhere in the top 10 and it was the same story in the album chart, where the top three stayed the same – Life for Rent by Dido, Friday’s Child by Will Young and Number Ones by Michael Jackson occupying the top three places, in that order.
