P Diddy lands Broadway role

Sean Combs, better known as rap star P Diddy, will make his Broadway debut in a revival of A Raisin In The Sun, the landmark drama about a black family moving into an all-white Chicago neighbourhood.

Producer David Binder said he contacted Combs after a mutual acquaintance had suggested that Combs “was interested in doing serious, challenging work in the theatre“.

Combs auditioned several times for the producer, director and casting director in the past few months.

“We were all incredibly impressed: he’s focused on his work,” Binder told the Associated Press.

The original production, which starred Sidney Poitier, was a success on Broadway in 1959 and later as a 1961 film.
