Tom Cruise tops US box office

Tom Cruise has topped the US box office chart with his new film The Last Samurai.

But its €19m ticket sales were the second worst opener for a Cruise movie, after 1999's Eyes Wide Shut with €17m.

Another new release, hip-hop/dance combo Honey, was second with €11m, Eddie Murphy's Haunted Mansion dropped one place to third, while last week's top movie, Dr Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, fell to fifth place.

The controversial Bad Santa held at seven, while Love Actually remained at number ten.
