His single Leave Right Now held onto top spot for a second week, while his album, Friday's Child, went straight in at number one.

Black Eyed Peas entered the singles chart at number two with Shut Up, while EastEnder Shane Ritchie slipped to number three with his cover version of I'm Your Man.

Pop Idol runner-up Gareth Gates was in at number four with his new single Say It Isn't So while Westlife's Mandy dropped two places to number five. Jump from Girls Aloud dropped from four to six.

Simply Red are at number seven with You Make Me Feel Brand New, Dido is at eight with Life For Rent and D-Side at number nine with Real World. Katie Melua was a new entry at 10 with The Closest Thing To Crazy.

In the album charts Dido's Life For Rent improved one place from last week to number two. Michael Jackson had a bad week though with his Number Ones album slipping from two to third spot and in the single's charts, his latest release, One More Chance dropped from number five last week to 21 this week.

Westlife dropped from top spot to number five in the album charts with Turnaround while Fame Academy winner Alex Parks dropped from number five to number nine with her first album, Introduction.

Cliff Richard stormed up the charts from 18 to number 10 with his festive album, Cliff At Christmas.
