Punk pop trio Busted shot to the top of the UK charts tonight, dashing Britney’s chances of going in at number one.

The London teenagers went straight to the top spot with their single Crashed the Wedding.

Pop princess Britney Spears settled for second with her new hit Me Against The Music, featuring Madonna.

Turn Me On by Kevin Lyttle climbed a place to number three, while Australian songbird Kylie Minogue’s Slow was ousted from the top to land at number four.

Be Faithful by Fatman Scoop/Crooklyn Clan continued its slide from three to five; Outkast’s new single Hey Ya went straight in at number six.

After just a week in the charts Flip Reverse by Blazin’ Squad fell from two to seven; Chart-topping hit Where Is The Love by Black Eyed Peas continued its slide three places to eight.

Ronan Keating came straight in at nine with Lost for Words, narrowly beating Missy Elliott’s new single Pass That Dutch, which went in at 10.

Dido’s album Life For Rent climbed from three to one in the album charts, knocking Guilty by Blue off the top spot to four.

And the competition for the coveted Christmas number one is already hotting up.

The Pop Idol 12 are favourites with bookies William Hill at 5-6, with Bill Nighy, star of Love Actually, at 4-1, The Darkness at 7-1, Cliff Richard at 8-1 and comedian Avid Merrion at 12-1.
