Affleck in 'perpetual audition'

Ben Affleck believes he has been in the shadow of his friend Matt Damon ever since they made their 1997 film Good Will Hunting.

After the film was successful and their script won an Oscar, “Matt was more sought after,” Affleck tells Entertainment Weekly magazine.

“When Good Will Hunting broke, it was all about Matt. I’ve always felt like I’ve been in a perpetual audition.”

He also claims Miramax Films “exploited” his friendship with Damon to promote the film.

“Matt and I were a successful marketing hook for Miramax and they used it,” he said. “It felt a little bit like we were whoring our friendship, like a guy out there with an organ grinder and a monkey.”

The actor is also bothered by New York’s mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has made no secret of his liking for Affleck’s girlfriend Jennifer Lopez.

“It’s funny, but sometimes I think this dude may be serious,” said Affleck.
