Mirren competes in Best Actress Award
Dame Helen Mirren is up against two other veteran British stars for the best actress award at the European Film Awards next month, in the shortlist announced today.
The 58-year-old star, nominated for her role in Calendar Girls, is competing against Charlotte Rampling, also 58 and Anne Reid, 68.
Rampling is shortlisted for the awards in Berlin on December 6 for her performance in Swimming Pool, while Reid is up for The Mother.
Dirty Pretty Things – a thriller set in London’s illegal immigrant community – which is nominated for four prizes.
It is up for best film, best actor for Chiwetel Ejiofor, best screenwriter and cinematography.
Michael Winterbottom’s film In This World is up for three titles – best film, director and cinematography.
