Affleck in demand despite Gigli flop
Despite the failure of Gigli, Ben Affleck is still in demand.
He is to star as real-life basketball coach Don Haskins in Glory Road, a film about the ground-breaking 1966 Texas Western College team, according to Walt Disney Co. sources.
Haskins, now 73, fielded an all-black team against an all-white Kentucky team in the championship finals, and Texas Western, now known as Texas-El Paso, won 72-65.
The victory was credited with opening the doors of universities across the nation to black athletes.
Antoine Fuqua, director of “Tears of the Sun” and “Training Day,” will direct and filming is expected to begin early next year.
“I’m just flattered that they want to do the movie at all,” Haskins said.
“I’m happy for all the players on that team.”
