Marathon man Ranulph Fiennes said today he was a whisker away from becoming movie hero James Bond – but looked too much like a “farmer”.

The explorer auditioned for the role in his 20s to replace short-lived 007 George Lazenby who starred as the agent just once, in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
