Scary Movie III breaks US box office records

Spoof horror film Scary Movie III was a United States box office record breaker, according to figures out today.

The movie was packed out over the weekend, bringing in a massive €44m in ticket sales – the biggest October opening ever in America.

Scary Movie III, which pokes fun at traditional sci-fi and horror films, knocked the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre off the top spot.

The Chainsaw Massacre saw its ticket sales slashed in half.

News of Scary Movie III’s success will come as a relief after the second instalment proved a disappointment.

Number three also saw some poor reviews, with USA Today saying: “Gags designed to be in the worst taste turn out to be the least funny.”

Scary Movie IV begins shooting next year, under the control of Airplane director David Zucker.
