Destiny's Child star heads for Broadway
Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child is heading for Broadway as the new star of Aida.
She will replace Toni Braxton in the long running Disney musical which has a score by Elton John and Tim Rice.
Williams joined Destiny’s Child in 2000, singing with them on the group’s third album, the best-selling Survivor.
Her solo debut album, the gospel-flavoured Heart To Yours, came out last year. A second solo recording, Do You Know? Will be released in January.
“Aida is a woman with such strength,” the 23-year-old Williams said in a statement. “I love this character.”
Williams will appear in the show for 10 weeks, ending her run on January 25, say the producers.
Aida, the star-crossed story of a Nubian princess in love with an Egyptian soldier, opened on Broadway in March 2000.
