Love accused of abandoning daughter

Rocker-actress Courtney Love says she has been accused of abandoning her 11-year-old daughter Frances Bean Cobain.

She is fighting a court battle to regain custody of the child, who was put into the care of her paternal grandmother by welfare officials after police arrested Love on October 2 for being under the influence of a controlled substance.

At the time, Love told the New York Daily News, Frances was "asleep at home with her live-in nanny".

“Cops and two ladies in white coats came to my house,” she told the newspaper. “I got jackbooted. My mouth was taped shut.”

She said she was put into a rehabilitation programme in hospital but after 24 hours she walked out.

“I looked like a bag lady,” she said. “I had no shoes. I had to hide in a bush. Then I see a house so I knock on the door and I say, ‘Hi, I’m Courtney Love. I’m leaving the loony bin’.”

A child welfare spokesman told the newspaper that the agency is “investigating the matter”.
