Babs Windsor breaks ankle in fall

Actress Barbara Windsor has broken her ankle in a fall, her manager said today.

The EastEnders star slipped on her stairs in her London home, fracturing her ankle in two places, according to Barry Burnett.

The 66-year-old underwent surgery today and is expected to be in hospital for a “couple more days yet”.

The accident caps off a bad year for the former Carry On star, who has been suffering from a rare energy-sapping virus.

She was diagnosed with Epstein-Barr virus in March but is now recovering well, according to Mr Burnett.

“Barbara has been feeling a lot better recently and she had been hoping to do a BBC special later this year,” he said.

“Its been a terrible year for Barbara. Lets just hope this marks the end of the bad luck.”

The actress, who is married to 39-year-old Scott Harvey, is taking a break from playing Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders.
