Gigli

Director: Martin Brest

Cast: Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez

Cert: 18

Let’s face it, the best thing that could ever have happened for this turkey of a ‘rom-com’ was the publicity-fest that is Bennifer. Without the on-off-on-off nuptials of its two stars, Gigli would be nothing more than a glitch in Hollywood’s finely oiled machine. As it is, however, Gigli may find itself garnering more box-office interest than it deserves as a nation of celebophiles flock to see the dynamic duo in action.

Affleck plays Larry Gigli, a small-time thug whose next job is to kidnap the brain-damaged brother of a federal prosecutor in order to save his lowlife boss. Are you still with me? Enter one Ricki; played by the pneumatic Lopez; a fellow gangster sent by the aforementioned boss to help the hapless Gigli fulfil his task.

With a sexy diva and unwitting innocent for company, Gigli starts to question his motives (and, presumably, the plot). He falls in love with Ricki and feels sorry for the kidnapped brother. By the way, in a hilarious plot twist, turns out Ricki might be a lesbian. But then again she mightn’t. Oh dear.
