Richards' arrest ended heroin addiction
Rolling Stone Keith Richards has revealed that he ended his 10-year addiction to heroin after being arrested in Canada in 1977.
“I said to myself, ’This is a laboratory and we’re closing the laboratory down,”’ Richards writes in a new book, According To The Rolling Stones.
“When I returned to the fold I wrote Beast Of Burden for Mick Jagger to say ‘Thanks, man, for shouldering the burden.’ The problem was, Mick had got used to running the show.”
The two have had tension ever since, with Ron Wood playing the peacemaker.
"It got so near to falling apart,” Wood writes in the book, “but I knew that underneath anything else that might have happened they had that old love - and that old love-hate - for each other from back in the sandpit.”
