Christian Bale is to be the new Batman, Warner Bros has announced.

The American Psycho star saw off other hopefuls including Irish actor Cillian Murphy and Jake Gyllenhaal, Joshua Jackson, and Eion Bailey for the role after auditioning for the director Christopher Nolan.
