Sin Eater

Director: Brian Helgeland

Cast: Heath Ledger, Mark Addy, Peter Weller, Shannyn Sossamon

Cert: 15.

The constant battle against the evils of Satan is made to look very beautiful in this so-so story of a group of Catholic priests - all looking very sexy and lantern-jawed - who tackle the forces from the dark side.

Ledger, one of the new breed of Oz stars now scattered around the film industry, plays the leader of the good guys, with his own dark past. Mark Addy plays his Irish buddy. Sossamon is there merely to add a touch of glamour.

It's a weak story that considers itself a much more serious one than it really is. For all its moments of genuine terror, Sin Eater is far too stylish for its own good, and never really gets down to its basic premise of good versus evil and the strength of the Church in conducting the fight.

Star Rating: 2/5
