Bobby Brown in jail in Georgia
Singer Bobby Brown is to stay behind bars in a Georgia county jail until a court appearance tomorrow, officials said.
Whitney Houston’s husband has been in custody since his arrest on Friday for violating probation from an earlier drunk driving conviction.
A warrant was issued last month, but he was only arrested after a diner told police he was eating at a suburban Atlanta seafood restaurant with Houston.
In January, the 33-year-old star was sentenced to eight days in jail and ordered not to drive for a year after pleading guilty to a 1996 drunk driving charge in DeKalb County.
The singer was arrested because he did not show up for court-ordered community service, drug treatment or a random drug test, said DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Mikki Jones.
Last November, Brown was arrested in Atlanta on charges of possessing marijuana, speeding and having no driver’s licence or proof of insurance.
He also did 26 days in a Florida jail in 2000 for a previous probation violation.
Brown left R&B group New Edition in the late 1980s for a solo career. His hits include My Prerogative and Every Little Step.
