Coldplay star: I was gay taunts victim

Coldplay star Chris Martin revealed today he was teased about his sexuality at school.

The singer is now dating one of the world’s most beautiful women, Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

Martin urged anyone who might be suffering taunts to rise above them.

“My nicknames at school would generally question my sexuality which I kind of had a problem with then,” he said.

“But I realised when I was about 16 that it didn’t actually matter, then it kind of stopped.

“The thing is there’s probably some 14-year-old now worrying his pants off at the moment but there’s no point, it doesn’t matter.”

Martin countered suggestions that marriage to Paltrow was imminent, but did not rule it out.

Chris said: “We’re not getting married in the near future.”

And he dispelled rumours about possible guests: “Everything that is written about Steven Spielberg and Chewbacca is a load of rubbish. Darth Vader is supposed to be giving her away. It is sad because it proves you can’t believe anything you read.”

Martin has been careful to avoid talking about his love life and has disdain for the way he has suddenly become a celebrity because of his girlfriend.

And he was wary of talking about Paltrow, even declining to mention her name.

“I don’t want to talk about my personal life,” he said.

The band have seen huge global success on the back of second album A Rush Of Blood To The Head which helped them to win two Brit Awards earlier this year.

And they will effectively round off promoting the album by jointly headlining the V2003 festivals this weekend.

He said the band now needed to reinvent itself – and he hinted that they could call it a day.

The band was close to quitting on an earlier occasion after the surprise success of debut album Parachutes.

Martin said they would spend a year out of the limelight.

“I’m not sure if we’ll come back. To be honest I’m petrified – it’s so frightening being in England, I feel like everyone hates us at the moment.

“We have to go away and reinvent ourselves and come back with something amazing.”
