A sold out concert by US pop stars Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake was cancelled when a large lighting grid collapsed on the stage.

Three stagehands suffered minor injuries when the rig crashed down at the 75-year-old Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

About 30 people were working under it when it buckled and lurched down before collapsing entirely.

Neither Aguilera nor Timberlake were present at the time.

Valarie McGonigal, the hall’s director of marketing, said the cause of the collapse – the second one at the site in three years – was being investigated.
