Best's wife 'hurt and betrayed' over affair reports

The mother of George Best’s wife Alex has spoken of her daughter’s “hurt and betrayal” following reports that he has been having an affair.

The devastating news was broken by the media yesterday as the couple enjoyed a romantic holiday in Malta.

Reports claimed that the ex-Manchester United football star had been seeing blonde Paula Shapland and that he planned to leave his wife of eight years.

Alex’s mother Cheryl Pursey, speaking from her home in Sutton, Surrey, said that she had spoken to her daughter yesterday.

“At the moment she is feeling rather hurt, betrayed and angry,” she said.

“She doesn’t know what the future holds.”

Ms Pursey said that Alex had no plans to return from her holiday early, and added that she would be speaking to her later today.
