MTV launches US-style live show in UK
MTV bosses are launching a British version of one of their most successful US shows which attracts some of the world's biggest stars.
Guests and fans flock to the American version of TRL (Total Request Live) which helped kick start the careers of Britney Spears and Eminem, while its host Carson Daly has become one of the country's best-known presenters.
Now the show is to launch in the UK fronted by relative newcomer Dave Berry, with the station promising high calibre guests.
In the US, Daly fronts the programme from a glass-fronted studio overlooking New York's Times Square with hundreds of fans often gathering outside to see big names such as Jennifer Lopez drop in.
The British version will be broadcast from the channel's headquarters in Camden, north London, in front of an audience and the hour-long show will feature a countdown of viewers' favourite videos each day.
Berry will also get guests to take part in on-air stunts and encourage them to meet fans.
Michiel Bakker, managing director of MTV Networks UK & Ireland, said: "TRL is quite simply the biggest show that we have ever launched at MTV UK."
It launches on August 19 and will be shown each weekday at 4.30pm.
