Exciting action for junior heroes
Spy Kids 3D: Game Over
Robert Rodriguez
Antonio Banderas, Ricardo Montalban, Sylvester Stallone, Carla Gugino, Alexa Vega, Daryl Sabara
PG.
It is interesting to note that in this above-average children's adventure Sly Stallone is well down the pecking order ... ah, the fickle finger of fate!
He plays the villain into whose Tron-like video game our heroes are zapped, and there they must battle to escape.
The Spy Kids series has produced much exciting action and here the trend continues, though I'm not totally convinced the 3D effects are any advantage. Elsewhere, 3D came and went way back in the days when the movies were desperately casting about for anything which would see off the dangers of TV. It didn't work then and isn't needed now.
The strength of 3D lies in its exciting pacing and its consistently high entertainment levels. It has its flaws, to be sure, but they can easily be overlooked thanks to the performances and the action.
