Four Weddings director in line for Potter movie

Four Weddings and a Funeral director Mike Newell is in talks to make the next Harry Potter film, it was reported today.

The British director is being lined up to take charge of the fourth big-screen adaptation of JK Rowling's best selling novels about the boy wizard.

He has yet to see the script for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire or meet Warner Bros executives, but both sides are eager to work together, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

If the deal goes ahead he will be the first British director to make a Harry Potter film.

US-born Chris Columbus directed the first two movies and Mexican Alfonso Cuaron made the upcoming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Newell is currently working on Mona Lisa Smile, which stars Julia Roberts.
