Lawyers may withdraw from Celine extortion case

Lawyers for a couple accused of trying to extort money from singer Celine Dion’s husband have said they might withdraw from the case.

Yun Kyeong Kwon Sung, 47, and her husband Ae Ho Kwon, 50, had been due to appear in court on August 25 in Las Vegas.

They claimed in March 2001 that Dion’s husband and manager Rene Angelil raped Sung at a hotel on the Strip.

They face charges of demanding millions of dollars from Angelil after agreeing to settle the rape claim against him for $1.9m (€1.7m).

Sung remains in custody, but Kwon is free on bail and has said the couple, from California, are having difficulties paying their legal bills.
