Beyonce fends off chart rivals

R&B star Beyonce turned girl power into staying power when she fended off a challenge from the Queen of pop to the top of the UK charts.

Madonna’s new single, Hollywood, entered the singles charts at number two, failing to knock the bootylicious star off the number one spot.

Hollywood is the tale of Madge’s relationship with movies and Tinseltown. In the video, she plays a string of Hollywood beauties such as Ginger Rogers and Jean Harlow.

Crazy In Love, Beyonce Knowles’s solo hit, also managed to hold off fresh competition from angst-ridden Pink and rapper Eminem.

The 21-year-old – who shot to fame as part of Destiny’s Child – has maintained her place after storming straight to the top of the singles’ charts last week.

Pink’s Feel Good Time, the theme to blockbuster Charlie’s Angels, came in at number three, while Eminem’s Business, which comes on the heels of a UK tour, entered the charts at number six.

Meanwhile Blur’s new single Crazy Beat came in at number 18 while Avril Lavigne’s latest offering Losing Grip only reached 22.

Former Hear’Say singer Kym Marsh’s second single Come on Over entered the charts at number ten.

Last week’s highest new entry Fool No More by S Club 8 – formerly S Club Juniors – fell from number four to 15.

Simply Red’s new single Fake entered the single charts at number 21.

Beyonce also maintained her grip on the album charts with her CD Dangerously In Love sticking at the top for the third week.

Australian star Delta Goodrem – who this week announced that she was fighting cancer – fell one place in the album chart as Innocent Eyes slipped to number three.

The debut album by glam rock band The Darkness shot straight to number two in the album charts.

Permission to Land is a 70s heavy metal-style offering inspired by the music of Aerosmith and AC/DC.

The band – Justin Hawkins, brother Dan, Ed Graham and Frankie Poullain – are supporting Robbie Williams at Knebworth for three nights from August 1.
