Fans want Bruce Lee memorial in HK
Hong Kong residents want to put up a statue to one of their most famous sons - kung fu film legend, Bruce Lee.
Thirty years after his death, fans demanded Hong Kong to put up a memorial for the star.
“Bruce Lee is a symbol. He truly represents Hong Kong,” said Pippen Wong, a fan who accuses Hong Kong of neglecting Lee’s memory.
Lee’s daughter Shannon has also joined the calls for a memorial.
Lee was born in San Francisco but spent much of his youth in Hong Kong, where he became a familiar face before moving to Hollywood.
Classic king fun films like 1973’s Enter the Dragon cemented his cult status. He died aged 32 of a brain aneurysm in Hong Kong on July 20, 1973.
Hong Kong Home Affairs Department spokeswoman Lily Chen said today that the Hong Kong government had no plans to commemorate him.
