Gaetano leaves Big Brother house

Gaetano left Big Brother today after just four days with the housemates.

The Ugandan charmer, a contestant on the African version of the show, departed at 1.55pm.

He went into the house at 9am on Monday in a swap with Cameron designed to liven up the programme, and was told last night that he would be leaving today.

Before going he and his new friends drank a cider toast.

He left a photo of himself to remind them of his stay and gave lollipops to the girls.

“It’s been fantastic,” he told them.

As they raised their glasses Gaetano offered some last words of wisdom. “Don’t take things too personally,” he said.

In the garden, yoga loving blonde Nush stumbled slightly into Gaetano, who has been flirting with her during his time in the house.

“Is it the drink or me?” he asked her, and she replied: “It’s you making me swoon.”

The other housemates were clearly upset to see Gaetano go and sat in the garden chatting to him while he waited to leave.

Finally Big Brother called Gaetano to the reward room and reminded the others they could not follow him in there.

Gaetano hugged each of them individually. “You’re cooking man,” he told Gos, a chef.

“Goodbye Tush,” he said to Nush.

All the housemates walked him up the corridor, gave him a round of applause and sang their goodbyes.

“Thanks, I really enjoyed myself,” Gaetano told them.

Once the door closed behind him, the others drifted back into the lounge.

“That’s really quite sad actually,” said Tania – obviously no longer upset about him jokily dubbing her “Piggy” because of the amount of food she eats.

“Just when you get used to him they take him away,” said Gos.

Turning to the reward room, Gos yelled: “Are you still there?”

Hearing Gaetano reply, Gos shouted back: “Come back, open the door man ... can I come with you?”

Gaetano has described his stay in the house as “short and sweet” but probably was not too upset to be leaving – he has complained that the British house is boring.

“They are so very reserved here. It’s not like that in Africa. There are more free spirits there. We don’t have so many inhibitions,” he told Big Brother.

He has already spiced up the African version of the show by romping under the blankets with fellow contestant Abby.

There was no word on whether Cameron would be coming back to the house today.

He has spent the last four days in Johannesburg after Big Brother sprang the surprise swap.
