Elton John clears out London home
Elton John is clearing out his London home, selling paintings, furniture and hundreds of other items, it emerged today.
The singer is planning to remodel his house, which means a collection of more than 400 items, expected to fetch in excess of £800,000 (€1.14m), will be up for grabs.
Elton’s collection, put together over the past 11 years since he moved into the west London address, will go on sale at Sotheby’s New Bond Street auctioneers on September 30.
He said: “My love of contemporary art and photography is well-documented. I wanted to have the opportunity to display more contemporary work in one of my UK homes.
“But as my house in Windsor has a very traditional style, the obvious choice was to remodel my Holland Park home, both in terms of layout and interior design, to give me more scope for exhibiting this collection.”
Every room in the house is packed with elegant furniture and valuable art works, and the sale will feature a selection of Biedermeier furniture from the first quarter of the 19th century.
