Anti-Material girl buys plush Hollywood pad

Madonna’s recent attack on materialism has not stopped her spending £8m (€11m) on a Beverly Hills mansion.

The singer – who rails against shallow consumerism on her hit American Life - bought the 11,600 sq ft property near Los Angeles’s Sunset Boulevard from actress Sela Ward.

The French Norman-style home has seven bedrooms, 15 bathrooms and toilets, a screening room, a library, a gym, a sauna, two guesthouses, a tennis court, a steam room and a 60ft swimming pool.

Last month Madonna and film director husband Guy Ritchie sold their 7,000 sq ft Spanish-style home in Beverly Hills.
