Scorsese hit with huge lawsuit

Martin Scorsese has been hit with a one million dollar lawsuit by a fellow producer who claims to have been waiting 13 years for the Gangs of New York director to get around to a film he allegedly agreed to make.

Gianni Nunnari, whose previous films include From Dusk Till Dawn and the Brad Pitt thriller Seven, has filed a breach of contract action in Manhattan Supreme Court, claiming that Scorsese failed to come through on a 1990 agreement to bring Shusaku Endo’s novel Silence to the screen.

In that time Scorsese made at least nine other films, claims the lawsuit, and is soon due to start filming The Aviator, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio as the young Howard Hughes.

Representatives for Scorsese and Miramax have refused to comment on the suit.
