Wellington, the New Zealand capital, has salvaged the world premier of the third and final movie in the Lord of the Rings trilogy after agreeing to foot the bill to refurbish the rundown cinema slated to host the event.

The December premiere of Return of the King, was in jeopardy after US film company New Line Cinema warned the prestigious event would move to Los Angeles if the dilapidated Embassy cinema did not meet world standards.
