Smith knew nothing about 'Bennifer'

Writer-director Kevin Smith says he did not know his friend Ben Affleck was dating Jennifer Lopez when Affleck recommended she should play his wife in Smith’s gangster comedy Jersey Girl.

“Bennifer,” as Smith calls them, had just finished working together in Gigli, and, Smith told the New York Times: “All of a sudden it turned out they were a couple and I thought, ‘No wonder he wanted to work with her again’. Suddenly his suggestion didn’t seem so altruistic.”
