Sleep set to become 'rat food'

Former ballet dancer Wayne Sleep was today preparing to don a “rat-food suit” and crawl amongst 300 live rats in I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!

Wayne took the news calmly after he received the most votes from the British public watching last night’s show.

Only three days in, unofficial figures revealed I’m a Celebrity has already pulled in as many viewers as the climax of the first series.

Almost 11 million people tuned in to see the first programme in the second run of the jungle survival show, in which John Fashanu poured creepy-crawlies into his pants.

Las night, viewers saw Danniella Westbrook threaten to quit I’m A Celebrity because she missed her family and didn’t want to be away from home.

The former EastEnders actress broke down in the Bush Telegraph as she opened her heart about life in the camp.

Danniella, 29, said she was finding it hard being apart from her husband Kevin and her two children, Kai and Jodie B.

“This is the first time I’ve ever been away from my family ever,” she said.

“It’s the first time I’ve been apart from Kevin since we got married. I’d never ever do it again – not for any job in the world.”

Danniella said she might feel better in a few days but as she looked down aghast at her fingers she remarked: “Look at my bloody nails.”

Cricketer Phil Tufnell celebrated his 37th birthday yesterday but had a party with a difference – no alcohol.

The former Middlesex and England cricketer, nicknamed The Cat, was offered two bottles of wine as a birthday treat but the group would have to forfeit three meals.

The other celebrities agreed to sacrifice the food but after much agonising Phil refused the wine and instead tucked into a dinner of kangaroo and Brussels sprouts.

The 10 celebrities – John Fashanu, Linda Barker, Antony Worrall Thompson, Toyah Willcox, Catalina Guirado, Sian Lloyd, Chris Bisson, Wayne, Phil and Danniella – are spending two weeks in their jungle camp deep in southern Queensland.

Each day one of them is chosen to undertake a Bushtucker Trial to win food for the group.

After Danniella’s earlier outburst, the bookies at Coral placed her as the outsider to win the show at 16-1.

Coral spokesman David Stevens said: “Westbrook looks as if she could be the first contestant to use the phrase ‘I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here’ and her chances of winning look slim.”

Phil remains the hot favourite at 7-4, followed by Anthony at 9-2, Toyah, Linda and Chris at 7-1, Catalina at 10-1, John at 12-1, Wayne at 12-1, Sian at 14-1 and Danniella bringing up the rear.

Wayne and Danniella are also joint favourites to be evicted first at 3-1.

Bookmakers William Hill said Phil’s refusal to take the show seriously was working in his favour.

They reduced his odds from 3-1 to 9-4, followed by Antony and Toyah at 11-2, Chris and Sian at 13-2, Linda at 8-1, with Catalina, Danniella, John and Wayne all at 10-1.

Ladbrokes also placed Phil in front with odds of 2-1, followed by Antony at 5-1, Linda and Toyah both at 6-1, Chris at 8-1, Catalina at 9-1, John at 10-1, Sian at 12-1, Daniella at 14-1 and Wayne at 16-1.
