Welcome to Collinwood is 'not a good enough film'
Welcome to Collinwood
Joe and Anthony Russo
Sam Rockwell, William H. Macy, Luis Guzman, Isaiah Washington, Jennifer Esposito, George Clooney
15.
We are in the company of a group of ill-assorted characters, low on the human food-chain, involved in a complex robbery.
But, alas, the directing brothers Russo can't quite get their film under proper control. There is, too, just too much going on and too many characters involved in it. It is a drama set in Cleveland, not one of America's beauty spots, and it is packed with off-putting street jargon you have to know - but probably don't - what people are actually talking about.
It's a surprisingly excitement-free film given its subject matter and because of the growing weaknesses many of what is a strong cast find themselves stranded in limbo.
There are odd moments of smart dialogue and two exceptional performances from Clooney and Rockwell, but overall it's not a good enough film to grab your undivided attention.
