Ten days can seem a long time

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days

Director: Donald Petrie

Cast: Kate Hudson, Matthew McConaughey, Adam Goldberg, Bebe Neuwirth

Cert: General.

Here, Hudson plays a magazine writer who desires to contribute more than her fluffy fare. She talks her editor (the excellent Neuwirth) into letting her write an article about finding a man and dumping him within 10 days; by doing all the things that women do to drive men crazy.

Her victim (McConaughey) is an advertising executive - another thrusting NYC type - who enters the experiment with his own agenda: he has bet his pals that he can seduce any woman within 10 days.

You guessed it already!!

It is a slight film - though a surprisingly successful one at the Stateside Box Office - and it does not require you to be a rocket scientist to get through it. But it ultimately lacks depth and genuine wit to keep us fully engrossed in the on-off romance. And we can even guess the outcome, even as the opening credits are rolling.

Hudson is as good as the screenplay allows her to be, McConaughey is a tad on the wooden side and only Neuwirth emerges on the credit side.

But, hay, it's light as air and it would be the perfect flick for a first date!!

Star Rating: 3/5.
