Colin Firth, who recently co-starred with American teenager Amanda Byrnes in the lighthearted comedy What A Girl Wants, is turning serious for his next role.

The actor, known for his role as Mr Darcy in the television production of Pride And Prejudice, is to star with another American actress, Mena Suvari, in the psychological thriller Trauma. The film begins shooting in London and the Isle of Man at the end of this month.

Firth will play a man who wakes from a coma after a car crash to find that his wife apparently died in the same accident.

As he tries to rebuild his life he is haunted by images of his dead wife and his grip on reality starts to loosen.

Suvari plays his New Age neighbour who encourages him to contact his wife through a medium, with shocking results.
