Madonna's new single is American dream

Pop queen Madonna is poised to notch up her 11th UK number one this weekend as her single American Life rockets to the top of the charts.

The success comes despite the singer having scrapped her first video for the track, affecting the promotional push.

Early sales show she will topple Make Luv by Room 5 featuring Oliver Cheatham after a three-week reign at the top of the Official UK Chart, pushing it to number two.

Blur are expected to enter the charts at number three with their single Out Of Time, the first release from their seventh album.

And Robbie Williams is expected to be a new entry at number four with Come Undone, according to early indications of Monday’s sales.

Madonna abandoned the original video for American Life because its military imagery was thought to be inappropriate during the conflict in Iraq.
