Griffith to make broadway debut

Melanie Griffith will soon be joining her husband Antonio Banderas on Broadway.

The actress has revealed she has landed the role of Roxie Hart – the murderess played in the Oscar-winning film Chicago by Renee Zellweger – in a new stage production of the musical.

Her husband has just opened in the Broadway musical Nine and received a ten-minute standing ovation on the opening night last week.

“I didn’t want to say anything until now about Chicago because I didn’t want to spoil Antonio’s big night,” Griffith told the New York Daily News.

“It just happened. I just auditioned and I got it on my own merit. I’m starting rehearsals now and I’m supposed to open in the summer.”
