Bob Hope honoured on Walk of Fame

Comedian Bob Hope, who celebrates his 100th birthday next month, is to be named Citizen of the Century on Tuesday by the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

And on Hope’s birthday, May 29, the junction of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Los Angeles will be named Bob Hope Square.

Streets will also be named after him in Toluca Lake and Cleveland, where he grew up. The Cleveland Indians baseball team will celebrate Bob Hope Day at their stadium Jacob’s Field.

Hope, who was born in Eltham, south London, and awarded an honorary knighthood in 1998, now spends his days at his suburban Toluca Lake golf estate across the Los Angeles River behind Universal Studios.

Asked how he is doing, a spokesman said: “He’s 99 years old!”
