Blue Crush

Director: John Stockwell

Cast: Kate Bosworth, Sanoe Lake, Michelle Rodriguez, Matthew Davis

Cert: 15.

Once upon a time, the arrival of a surfing film sent us scurrying deep inland.

But here comes just such a film and it's worth splashing about in. It's actually not a bad film - well, OK, so it's not Citizen Kane, but you will have seen a lot worse.

Beach-babe Bosworth plays a surfer who must face her fears after a bad accident. This she does with the aid of two close friends (Lake and Rodriguez) and there's a romance with Davis and a young sis in need of sorting out.

It's all as simple as that, but what gives it an edge is that the cast is attractive, Stockwell's directing, controlled and clever, the dialogue is extremely natural.

Star Rating: 3/5
