Boy band nominated for five awards

Boy band Blue headed the nominations for British radio station Capital FM’s annual awards as the shortlist was announced today.

The band are up for five prizes including top gig, favourite UK group and best album for their One Love release.

Prizes will be handed out at the London station’s annual awards bash on April 16.

Other multiple nominees include another boy band Westlife, shortlisted for four awards including best international group, best international single for World Of Our Own and best website.

Rock act Coldplay are up for three awards, including best album for the Brit-winning release A Rush Of Blood To The Head.

They compete in the best UK band category against Oasis, Stereophonics and Travis.

Listeners choose the winners and the event raises cash for the Help A London Child charity.

Capital DJ Neil Fox said: “The Capital Awards are so unique because they’re not about ego. You have big stars and new stars all happily sitting together and raising a glass – and cash – for London’s needy kids.”
