Full speed ahead

Writer-director Rebecca Miller comes up with another excellent film, adapting from her own collection of short stories, in which we are taken on a journey into the core of three American women at a critical moment in their lives (about to leave their current partners).

Writer-director Miller comes up with another excellent film, adapting from her own collection of short stories, in which we are taken on a journey into the core of three American women at a critical moment in their lives (about to leave their current partners).

Miller brings us a work of emotional power, in which she is helped by a trio of actresses - by no means from the A-List - who produce, in some cases, their best-ever work to make a film of adult and moving delight.

Sedgwick is particularly excellent, but so too are Posey and Balk, each facing their moment of decision and each of their characters brought to the screen with thoughtful observation.

Miller's directing is as sure as her writing since she cleverly uses various methods of capturing her self-contained stories on film. It is, quite simply, a gem!!
