Oscars dresses stolen from designer's car
The dress Angelina Jolie was to wear to the Oscars has been stolen from a car in London.
Jolie’s dress, along with a gown for millionaire hotel heiress Paris Hilton, was stolen along with seven other outfits, jewellery and accessories.
They were to be flown out to Los Angeles today for Sunday’s glamorous film awards ceremony.
But they were snatched yesterday from the car of the top celebrity designer Scott Henshall in Knightsbridge, west London.
A thief slashed open the soft-top roof of Mr Henshall’s BMW and grabbed the goods which were in bags inside the car.
He had gone into the Harvey Nichols store with his friend and passenger, Lady Victoria Hervey.
When he came out the dresses he had made for the celebrities had been stolen.
“He was completely astonished, it was in broad daylight,” said a fashion source.
“I think his reaction was immediate panic. He started looking in bins nearby.”
Mr Henshall flew out to LA earlier today to tell Jolie and Hilton they have nothing to wear for the big night.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said today: “Police are investigating the theft of nine dresses and other clothing and accessories from a car parked in Lowndes Square.”
Jolie’s outfit was a body-hugging red corset dress decorated with cherubs.
Hilton, 21, was planning to wear a low-cut sequinned mini-dress in a harlequin design.
A black chiffon flapper dress destined for Tamara Beckwith, who is due to conduct TV interviews at the ceremony, was also stolen.
