Cold Feet bows out on TV high note
TV’s Cold Feet went out on a high last night with record audiences tuning in for the last episode.
An average of 10.2 million viewers watched the tear-jerking finale in which Rachel was laid to rest, according to unofficial overnight figures.
It is the biggest audience for the ITV1 comedy drama which bowed out at the end of its fifth series.
The penultimate episode, in which Rachel was killed in a car accident, drew in an average 9.4 million.
Last night’s show saw the regular cast members gather for her funeral and to watch heart-broken husband Adam scatter her ashes in the sea.
Many of the show’s storylines were left open in the final scenes – Pete and Jenny appeared to have got back together, while Adam was preparing for a new life as a single dad.
But the cast have insisted that this really is the end and there will be no sixth series.
Helen Baxendale, who plays Rachel, recently said: “It’s going to be strange after five years for it not to be happening any more and, of course, I’m sad that it’s coming to an end, but it feels right too. It’s time to move on.”
