Cold Feet death draws record viewers

The death of Helen Baxendale's Cold Feet character Rachel attracted nearly 10 million viewers.

The penultimate episode of the long-running ITV1 drama had a record 9.4 million viewers - up by more than a million on last week's episode.

Fans were left shocked after Rachel died in intensive care following a road accident, as husband Adam was left sobbing by her bedside.

It had been rumoured that one of the main characters would die this series - but producers had filmed four different storylines to avoid a leaked plot.

A spokesman for Cold Feet said that next week's episode - which is the last ever-will have yet more drama.

"It was really important to us that we give fans of the show a fantastic emotional climax to this series," the spokesman said.
