Robert Downey Jr whose film career was derailed when he was arrested and subsequently jailed for drug offences, is now back in demand.

The actor, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role as Charlie Chaplin in Richard Attenborough's Chaplin, has undergone extensive drug rehabilitation programmes and has gradually eased back into work over the past year.

He stars in the forthcoming remake of Dennis Potter’s The Singing Detective and has now been drafted by director Steven Soderbergh to star in a segment of Eros, an erotic-themed project comprising short films by Soderbergh, Michaelangelo Antonioni and Wong Kar-Wai.

Downey plans to finish work on Eros before joining Halle Berry in the thriller Gothika.
